Facials masks are aplenty out there in the market. Not everyone can use everything. Hence, how would you sift through these and find the right match for your skin? The type of mask your face requires depends upon a lot of factors. Your choice of facial mask will depend on your skin type as well as your age. Skin types are many and can be classified into these few; oily, normal, combination and dry. Oily skin has a lot of limitations. This is so especially because oily skin is prone to breakouts and clogging of pores. Lack of radiance is another limitation associated with oily skin if not taken care of properly. Therefore, oily skin needs a lot of pampering. And what best way than a clay based face mask! Clay mask helps in unclogging pores by going deep into the pores. Applying clay face mask once a while would give oily skin a boost in terms of exfoliation, deep cleansing and radiance. The mineral properties of clay are well suited for oily skin. Combination skin is a little tricky. Users with combination skin would need to try out different masks to suit their needs. Also, users would need to know what to apply on which part of the face. The best facial mask for this skin type is also clay based face mask. If oily skin can be safe with clay based facial mask, combination skin could not go wrong there. However, if the clay based facial mask does not suit the user, the user would need to change and experiment with different facial masks. Normal skin type is a blessing. This skin type has very little problems associated with it if there is any. Therefore, mostly many masks type would suit this skin type. A good boost in radiance would add much value to a face with normal skin. Hence, normal skin type users should go for the radiance boosting and firming facial masks available in the market. The facial mask normal skin user can use can come in the form of gel, cream, peel-off or even wraps. Then there are user with dry skin type. These users need a boost in moisture. Therefore, users with dry skin need to find facial masks that have moisturizing properties. Also, uses with dry skin should stay away from the exfoliating type of facial masks. This would make their skin more prone to dryness and would cause peeling. Age type is another factor I mentioned that needs to be taken care of. No matter what you skin type, if you are above the age 30, you would need to go for the facial masks that have firming properties. This is especially so because, as you age, your skin starts to sag. This could be prevented if you give your face regular face lifts and take care of your face. Add Comment How to maintain young looking hands? 20/12/2009
Our hands are not an exception when it comes to ageing. Just like the other parts of our body, our hands require our utmost care and attention. Believe it or not, we use our hands every second of the day which put our hands under a lot of stress. A lot of stress would start reflecting on your hands and the ageing process would kick in sooner if you do not steer towards proper care and nutrition for your hands. As much damage we do to our hands, it is vital that we care for them twice as much. There are lots of things we can do to make sure our hands are as young as the rest of our body or even younger. Do not use nails to open tins or for scratching. This will cause your nail to break, become brittle and look uncared for. Also, take care that you clean your fingernails after using nail extensions or nail polish. If you are not careful, you will get ingrown nails and even fungus growing underneath. Watch your diet. As you would notice, our general well being will ensure that our different parts of our body are well taken care for. There are 3 essential elixirs for your face, namely, cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Without any of these, your facial is incomplete, especially so if you are wearing make-up. Most of us have a clear idea on what a cleanser and a moisturizer is used for. However, many do not have the slightest clue how important a facial toner is! As such, what is the use of a toner? Many people think that cleanser and moisturizer is enough for their skin. However, they are ignorant about the fundamental usage of a toner. They do not understand that toner is very much essential even more than a cleanser if you are not wearing any make up. So, what does a toner do to your skin? Toner has 5 main properties. Firstly, it helps to clear away any left over traces of makeup or impurities after you cleanse. Secondly, it balances your skin PH. Thirdly, it does what its name suggests; tone. Fourthly, it diminishes the appearance of pores. And finally, it helps in preparing the facial skin in accepting the moisturizer. Let me explain how this is all done by the toner. A cleanser is a vital thing to have for your daily facial if you wear make-up. It helps to clear the makeup of the makeup and clean you skin. However, due to pores and other factor, the skin may not be expelling all the makeup contents, hence, the need for a toner. Toner can be used by just splashing on to your skin or by using cotton swabs. If you use cotton swabs, you will notice the excess dirt that comes out of your skin. If you see this even after first round of toning, you need to change your cleanser. This is so because your cleanser is not properly helping to clear the makeup. Toner helps to balance your skin PH level. As we all know, the water we use to wash our face is rich in fluoride, chlorine and other chemicals that are used to treat the water so that it would be safe for human skin. However, the PH level of this water tends to skew towards the higher side, while your facial skin needs a balanced PH. Normally, the skin normalizes the PH and balances the skin PH in around 30-40 minutes. However, your toner helps you to set the PH in balance instantly. You will be able to experience this a you would feel much fresher and cool after you apply your toner and pat it dry with your fingertips. Toner helps to tone your face. It does this by making your skin supple and tight, preventing your skin from sagging. Next, toner helps in diminishing the pores. Pores are natural and will not go away as our skin is constantly in connection with a lot of free radicals in our environment. Pores can be enlarged by using wrong products on our face, improper cleaning, environmental factors such as pollution and lifestyle factors such as stress. What a toner does is clean deeper into the pores so as to unclog the impurities from deep within. This makes sure that your skin is free of dirt. Overtime, as your skin tightens, your pores will start to diminish and appear less obvious. Finally, toner helps in preparing the skin to accept moisturizer. Moisturizers are rich and help to keep our skin hydrated for a long period of time. However, if a facial toner is not used, the pores are not properly unclogged and any other products that you apply will only push the impurities further into your skin. This would mean enlarged pores and even result in acne and pimples. Hence, the cooling and cleansing properties of a toner helps your skin to readily accept the moisturizer. You will notice a increase in your skin's absorption of moisturizer after you apply your toner. Your skin type will determine which cleanser, toner and moisturizer to use. Therefore, be sure to check with the beauty consultant at the respective retails outlets where you buy your facial items and the contents Author : Wahidabi Sulaiman Oily Skin Care Routine - Part 5 (Final part) 20/12/2009
Skin treatment and Moisturizer After toning, apply your pore correcting serum or acne cream and your other treatments. Follow this with your face moisturizer. In the day, apply your day cream moisturizer and at night, apply your night repair moisturizer. Work it in with your middle and index finger from your chin upwards, followed by your neck area. Always finish off with your eye. Pat in your eye moisturizer for day or night with your index finger. Never use your face moisturizer for your eye. Eye area is delicate and your face moisturizer is far too intensive for your eye area. Therefore, use moisturizers that are specifically made for your eye. Take time out to maintain your skin in its healthy state. Your efforts will pay off when you have a beautiful vibrant skin in your older years and when everyone will envy you for it. If you are unable to do everything mentioned here everyday, at least take the time out to cleanse, tone and moisturize. As for the eye area, get plenty of rest and sleep. Also, drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated. With this, our Oily Skin Care Routine Series comes to an end. I hope this 5 part series has been of great help to you. Eye Treatment Otherwise, do your eye treatment. Pat your eye serum around your eyes with your index finger and continue to do so till it is completely absorbed into your skin. Index finger applies very little pressure on the delicate eye area. Hence, it is preferred to use index finger to massage eye area. Follow with your eye mask. Eye masks need to be left alone to settle and rejuvenate your eye area. Hence, relax while your face and eye masks are doing their job. Usually the settling period is around 15 minutes. After which, gently wipe, peel off the make or rinse accordingly. Apply your face serum. Usually serum will be absorbed very quickly into your skin. Toner If the face mask has toning properties, you need not follow the next step. To ensure, read your product label. Otherwise, follow up with a toner. Toner is very important in your skin care routine. You can read more about it on “Benefits of using a facial toner” article. Face Mask or Face Scrub Follow cleansing with a face mask. Note that face masks should be used only once a week or twice, depending on your skin condition. For oily skin, be sure to use a face mask which unclogs pores and deep clean your skin. Peel off mask is great for oily skin. Depending on your skin condition and taste, choose the one that you deem best. For more info, you can read “How to choose the best facial mask for your skin.” This step can be used for scrubbing instead of applying face mask. Scrubbing should also be done once or twice a week, depending on your skin condition. Scrubbing helps to get rid of dead skin cells (exfoliate) and make your face glow. Therefore, alternate between scrub and facial mask in your skin care routine. If you are scrubbing, ensure you rinse your face before doing your eye treatment. Leaving the facial scrub is not recommended while you do your eye treatment as your skin will tend to get too dry. Oily Skin Care Routine : Part 4 Oily Skin Care Routine - Part 2 20/12/2009

Oily Skin Care Routine - Part 2 Pimples and Acne - What are they? 20/12/2009
According to Merriam Webster, acne is "a disorder of the skin caused by inflammation of the skin glands and hair follicles; specifically, a form found chiefly in adolescents and marked by pimples especially on the face and pimple is a small inflamed elevation of the skin." To me I will take it that acne is slightly more complicated and has to do more with hormonal changes during your adolescence or pregnancy while pimple is a less hormonal. However, you do not get acne or pimple because you have bad skin. In fact, all skin types come with its good and bad. It is how you take care of them that make a lot of difference. To note is that the problem with both is that they can be quite unsightly. The trouble is to take care of them and eventually ensure that the pimple or the acne is gone from your skin. Especially when they appear on your face, it can be quite demoralizing. Mostly acne problems are found in skin which are oily by nature although the other skin types are occasionally not spared either. They can be found on your face especially if you have very oily skin and you skin care regimen is not established properly. You can read about skin routine for oily skin at Oily Skin Care Special (Coming soon). Due to weather conditions, pollution and hormonal changes, your skin attracts a lot of impurities. Moreover, the dirt clogged up if you do not remove you make up properly. The dirt and oil clogs up your pores making it difficult for your skin to breath. This, in the end, causes pimples to form or the acne is worsened. So, what exactly happens to your skin with all these impurities? In a nutshell, acne develops in and around the hair follicles and their oil producing glands. Bacteria in the deeper part of such, releases chemicals which interacts with the sebum produced by the oil glands. This makes the skin irritated, swollen and to become red. This develops into a pimple. Some conditions may be worsened if a pus develops within and enlarges the pimple. When this dries, it may eventually lead to scarring as well, if not taken care of properly.
